A fun way to discover Benidorm.
There is a Spanish proverb that says, "renew or die", and this can be applied to all aspects of life.
In times of crisis, tourism has embraced this premise to innovate and survive.
An example of this, in Benidorm, is Costa Blanca Tours, a company whose principal activity focuses on traditional tourism with excursions and tour guides in the Marina Baixa area.
The company has recently introduced a new leisure activity to complement its products and services, Segway tours.
The Segway, a new, modern, and eco-friendly form of transport, is used on these guided tours, using wireless equipment so tourists can enjoy the views while listening to the explanation of the accompanying guide.
There are daily Segway Tours, which all begin with a brief practice session. Ten minutes is enough to get accustomed to the Segway, as it is very easy to ride and balances on two wheels due to the dynamic gyroscopic stabilization technology, which means it moves with your body. The Segway has no accelerator, brakes, or clutch. When the rider leans forward, the Segway moves forward, and if they lean backward, it gradually slows down.
Emilio Cano, the company's Benidorm manager, acknowledges that it is an eco-friendly and, inexpensive means of transport, as it doesn't require any permits or licenses to operate, meaning no insurance or maintenance.
However, what's most striking about the Segway is that it's operated with a remote control that regulates all its actions. As for speed, which is of great interest to users, with this control it is set to 10 kilometers per hour, and only on special occasions does this speed increase, always safely and on suitable terrain.
Anyone can enjoy this two hour Segway Tour, and many repeat the experience. The only requirement is that you weigh between 40 to 120 kilos. After the tour, you won´t want to walk!
